ECON Contracts Secured Contract with McLaughlin & Harvey

ECON Contracts Chosen Contractor with McLaughlin & Harvey/London Gateway which involved a 40week contract for Erosion Protection and construction of a new slip way on the River Kent.

Client:
McL&H/London Gateway

Process:
Salt Fleet Flats involved the construction of an environmental habitat approx. 60 hectares in size. It is comprised of an inter-tidal mudflat in an area outside Cooling Marshes on the south bank of the River Thames in Kent.
To enable the environmental habitat to be created a 2.4Km tidal flood embankment was built tying into the existing defences and Econ were contracted to carry out the installation of the erosion protection and construction of a new concrete slipway. The erosion protection involved the installation of approx. 95,000m2 of erosion matting and installation of over 200,000 pins.

Challenges:
Challenges encountered during the works included working near a Salt Fleet water course. This area is a designated Special Protection Area (SPA) and RAMSAR site, which was prone to bird habitats. Mitigating measures were taken throughout the works to reduce our impact on the migrant birds.

Results:
McLaughlin Harvey were more than impressed with the completed project and site manager commented:

“ECON Contracts are a very professional & reliable company to work with and they are always at the other end of the phone if we need anything. They can work to tight deadlines and always deliver a high standard of work”
